Arrrrr!

Well 2009 is drawing to a close and heading off into the night like a GTA hooker so I thought I'd give my journal an update.

"What's up then?" as you probably didn't ask.

I've got a few things in the pipeline, most of which I am hoping to do today ready to colour in the new year. In particular a new ID for ymself as I'm getting a bit bored of the old one and my style has changed a bit since then. Secondly I hope to be finishing my Video Game Boss Battles series soon, but I've been having a few problems trying to realise that one so far.

There may also be a mini series of pics coming up based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, where the horsemen are replaced by gaming giants associated with each one. I hope you'll all enjoy my choices.

Otherwise it'll be more of the same for me next year - skulls, tattoo'd cuties, retro nerdiness, video games and Twilight bashing.

That's the art out the way, now for life in general. I'm rapidly falling out of favour with my jobs and I'm feeling like it's time for a change. Probably not best given this recession business and the fact that the world is probably going to end soon. Seriously though, it seems people these days are just getting ruder and more selfish. I get abuse daily from work shy freeloaders and arrogant kids because they have to wait 10 minutes for a piece of internet. I swear some of them argue for ages about not getting a PC right away as if their life depended on them using it RIGHT NOWWW!!! Hey dumbass, you're only dicking around on Facebook. Go fuck yourself.

But seriously, I didn't spend 5 years studying Art and Illustration and thousands of pounds to be there to tell those whiny bitches to try turning the computer off and on again 100 times a day or to argue with the same fuckweed EVERY night at the bar because there's (and I quote here) "TOO MUCH WATER IN THAT ICE!"

Thankfully I've a lovely buxom wench who can cook like the Devil to help me get through it. And she gets discounts at Topshop.

And finally, I'll end on a more positive note. It's been a great year if you're a gamer. Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, Street Fighter 4, Modern Warfare 2, Tekken 6 and (at last!) an online community-based Smackdown vs Raw to name some of the highlights. Not only that but a lot of my friends have defected from Xbox 360 to PS3 (told you so :p nyah!) so I can play online with people I actually know and have met in person.

So if you're on PSN, add me - CitizenWolfie (yeah same as here, bitches)

I hope you all have a happy Christmas and a drunken New Year's Eve and a great 2010.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

Help! Suggestions please!

Arrrrr!

OK so as any of my regular watchers may know, I'm trying to finish off my series of Video Game Boss Battles but now I'm a bit stuck. So far I've done six pictures (you can see them all here - [link] ) and I'm looking for some more ideas.

Now, I need 4 more pictures to finish the series, and one of which I'm pretty much decided on as a finale. So far these are the battles I'm thinking about doing:

- Cloud vs. Sephiroth *(this is going to happen)*
- Donkey Kong vs. Jumpman (Retro Mario)
- Niko vs. Dimitri Rascalov (GTA4)
- Wanda vs. Collossus (Shadow of the Collossus)

But I'm not sure really. As mentioned, the only definite choice so far is Cloud vs Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, whereas the others are just ideas for now.

Would you guys agree? If not then what great boss battles would you suggest?

The only criteria I have is that A: it needs to be widely acknowledged as a "Great" Boss Battle and B: I need to have played it myself (so no XBox360 games unfortunately).

Please help me out!

Work On Paper Exhibition

Avast ye swabs!

I haven't updated my journal in a while so I thought I'd weigh in what's been happening in the world of Wolfie.

Well, biggest news is that my work was recently selected to be displayed in a new exhibition at Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

So as of yesterday, my "Wolfie's Page 'O' Zombies" is now officially part of the Work on Paper exhibiton until the 23rd September 2009. It's free entry and all local Deviants are welcome to come. Most of you anyway ;)

I've since lost my job within Birmingham City Council's recruitment team due to this recession business, however I'm now working in my local library; which is a lot more fun than being stuck at a PC all day. I couldn't go back to office work. Nuh uh! After this month I may be going part-time which will mean I can concentrate more on my artwork again.

I've got a couple more pics to colour in soon, so hopefully you should all see those before too long as well.

Ummm, Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died, which made me sadder than I expected. And even worse, Mollie Sugden died as well! WTF?!?!

I've given up on playing Bioshock and conceded to my initial reaction to the demo - "God, this is so overrated!" Seriously, it sucks: the shooting mechanics are substandard at best and as for it's crowning glory, there are far better settings than Rapture (Midgar, Washington DC wasteland, Hyrule, Liberty City to name a few). Deal with it.

Similarly, I've been playing both inFamous and Prototype. Both great games, but I've got no idea why Prototype is getting superior reviews to inFamous. Prototype is essentially a 7 year old game (play the Incredible Hulk, Ultimate Destruction if you dont believe me: same game). I mean I like them both, but it's like comparing Mario to Sonic.

Anyway, I'll skip the usual rants and suchlike and sign off here. Hope to be on here a lot more soon.

Arr!!!

Hey everyone, just got back from Amsterdam and saw that my little counter is now over 30,000 hits and I just want to say thanks to everyone who continues to look at my fucked up little corner of DA.

To celebrate I'm releasing my recent fan-fictions to be downloaded as full PDFs along with bonus stuff like covers and character art.

Already up is The Legend of Zelda - Hyrule Noir, and soon to come is my FFVII fan-fic; Under The Rotting Pizza, which will contain a previously unseen comic that I did to illustrate the first couple of chapters. Hope you all enjoy.

Visit the gallery to download them!

Wrong again! Watchmen didn't suck!

Arr!

OK so I did it last year with the Dark Knight, and I've done it again - running my mouth off again and getting it wrong.

You see, at the screening of the Dark Knight they showed a trailer for the Watchmen movie. And I was not amused.

Watchmen is as near perfect as comics get - story, art, impact, everything. Watchmen changed everything. It defined comics as much as Maus did. It defined the Superhero genre. So why the hell bastardise it into a film?

Anyway I wasn't exactly silent at my disapproval. I did a second Rorschach fanart and had a good old rant about it then. However last week I swallowed my pride and went to see it.

Now I dont know if it was because my expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised - for a 160 minute film to get so much of the book in was pretty good. My main gripe was how they'd fit everything i but I think they (just about) managed it. I found that the opening credits filled a lot of the blanks pretty well.

The casting was excellent - Dan Dreiberg and The Comedian in particular. Unfortunately Dr Manhattan sounded like a whiny teen rather than a demi-god but then he was my least favourite character in the book. The dude who played Ozymandias wasn't great either but the rest of the cast made up for him.

As for the look of the film, I was very impressed, though I wouldn't have expected less from the director of 300. It kept a lot of the book's noir vibe and where I thought the costumes looked crappy in the trailers, they actually worked in the context of the whole film.

And without giving too much away on the ending if any of you haven't read it, I'm glad it was changed from the book. The ending worked in the book, but it would have been epic fail on screen. The way the movie tied it up made a lot more sense and so it's best to look at them as separate entities.

So all in all, a great film and I'd definitely recommend it to fans in particular.

Oh, and Rorschach...

...you're a Goddam legend and I wish there were people like you around for real.
